Are You Eligible?

Good question, because not everyone is! Well, whether you’re a care home worker or general practitioner, much like you can if you wear a uniform, you’re entitled to get getting a refund for the miles you’ve clocked up on your journeys.

You’d actually be surprised at how many people don’t even make a claim, but you do have a right to do so, as long as the trips you take are classed as “business mileage”. It doesn’t matter if you only make local journeys, as long as where you travel to is deemed to be outside the remit of your normal daily commute. If that’s the case, you could get up to 45p per mile back on every trip you’ve made.

Can I Only Claim for My Own Car?

Yes, that’s right. For example, if you’re a locum and you need to travel across the community to visit patients, as long as you are using your own car, you’ll be able to get a refund.

Actually, it doesn’t even have to be a car, it could be any type of vehicle you use. Scooter, van, bicycle or motorcycle, you can still take advantage of mileage allowance.

However, if the NHS or your private employer already reimburses you 45p per mile that you’ve travelled, you won’t be able to get tax relief. It’s also the same if you’re part of a company car scheme. If that’s not the case, use our free online calculator to get an instant estimate today and see how much you could be owed.

Does this sound like you...

Sam B used to work as a part-time domiciliary carer in addition to her regular day job so she could increase her household income. Depending on the northern weather, she would cycle or use her own car to visit patients, mostly in the Greater Manchester area.

After seeing a paid advert on Google, she got in touch with Claim Back Tax’s expert account managers and started the process of claiming a tax rebate for her mileage accrued over the last 4 years.

“Claim Back Tax has been absolutely outstanding. Wish we’d known about them sooner but will definitely be using their services again and again in the future. Can’t recommend enough.”

Going from having no idea that health care workers could make a claim or that others were due tax refunds for business travel, to a massive smile when she opened an envelope that contained a cheque for £1186. As a result, Sam was able to use that money towards buying a new, eco-friendlier car sooner than she’d planned.
